Nanofiltration is a filtration process that uses membranes with pore sizes in the range of 1-10 nanometres. In terms of the size of particles it filtration process falls between reverse osmosis (RO) and ultrafiltration (UF).
Nanofiltration membranes have pore size larger than reverse osmosis membranes but smaller than ultrafiltration membranes. It is used to remove a wide range of contaminants like dissolved solids, organic matter, bacteria viruses from water.
